Travis Harrison is a Canadian double bassist, sought after as an orchestral musician, soloist, chamber musician, and teacher. He is currently based in Toronto where he performs as a freelance orchestral and chamber musician and teacher. Recent notable engagements include as guest Principal Bass of Canada’s National Arts Centre Orchestra, and as a regular addition to the Canadian Opera Company and National Ballet of Canada’s bass groups. Travis is the bass professor at the University of Ottawa, and is a member of the International Society of Bassists’ board of directors.

He has many hobbies and interests, most of which involve attempting to enrich his own life and the lives of those around him (for example, making and sharing beer). Travis’ main concern these days is to help establish the double bass as an instrument deserving the same respect as the violin, viola, and cello, by redefining expectations of what it can achieve musically.
